To Whom It May Concern,                                                          April 4th 2008

It has come to my attention that Carl Brown and Dick Rosenlieb were terminated by the Federation after an investigation revealed they had accepted a free hunt from a vendor.  The hunt was at the Wintershoek facility in South Africa.  The reason I know this is due to the fact that I am the person who gave them the hunt.  As you may or may not be aware, I am one of the auctioneers for the National Convention.  I was working as a ring man at the Ladies Auction when this item was being offered by auctioneer Jerry Bruce.  As a person who has been to Africa numerous times I bid the hunt in at $1,250 trying to motivate someone in the crowd to start bidding higher.  As is sometimes the case, we as auctioneers sometimes miss guess what an item is worth that particular day.  Needless to say I ended up with the hunt much to the amusement of those around me.  I paid for the hunt by credit card and took the paper work home.  It was never my intention to go on this hunt as I had already harvested the game offered on the hunt.  I returned to Kansas and offered the hunt to any one in our chapter for free.  I had talked to Wintershoek and they didn’t care who came on the hunt, which is the way it is in Africa if you are familiar with hunting there.  I had no takers and was going to just forget the hunt when I later on talked with Dick Rosenlieb who had mentioned his and Carl’s interest in going to Africa and wanted to know who I would recommend to hunt with as he knew I went there often.  I insisted they take the hunt I purchased as a gift from a friend.  Dick wanted to pay me for the hunt and I would not let him.  My statement to Dick was

”If you’re going to try and pay me then you can’t have it as this is a friend doing something for a friend”.  After more prodding, he finally agreed to take the hunt and contact Wintershoek for the arrangements.  I never thought any more about this until now.  I am a volunteer for the NWTF.  I provide my auction services for free to the NWTF and have for over 20 years.  I pay my way to the convention and have never been paid for any service I have provided.  I also do some of the emcee work there as well, (which everyone knows I hate but do anyway).  I have raised millions of dollars for the NWTF.  I have no business dealings with them outside of donating my time and effort.  The only benefit I receive is the friends I have made and the benefit of what the Federation has done for conservation in our country through the outstanding efforts and visions of people like Dick and Carl.  I think I am fairly well known in the NWTF and am easily accessible to anyone in the NWTF.  Here is where my concern comes in.  For anyone to claim there was an investigation into Carl and Dick going on this hunt wrongfully was obviously a malicious fabrication with the intent to do harm to not only them but the Federation itself.  The purchase of this hunt is of record.  I have never been contacted, whereby if I have not been contacted I am pretty damn sure no one contacted Wintershoek either as their story will mirror mine as these are the true facts.  Who has made this accusation?  Why was I never contacted?  This attempt to discredit Carl and Dick is obviously with malice aforethought.  I request, no, I demand that the individuals, regardless of who they are or the positions they hold be held accountable for these actions and either resign immediately or be terminated for these wrongful actions.  If a hearing should become necessary to right this wrong, I will pay my own expenses to come to South Carolina and set the record straight regarding this hunt.  These events have already caused a lot of damage to the Federation as well as wrongfully tarnished these mens reputations.  I can be reached anytime on my cell phone at 785-640-1176.  At this time I am contacting the volunteers in Kansas and Missouri so that everyone is made of aware of what has happened.

Sincerely,
